Today’s idea for summer fun: Zucchini Boats! My city boys are having a blast in the country this summer. I love giving them a chance to be outside {all the time} away from the business of Hong Kong and sometime just to be a BOY! Today’s summer fun activity is easy and simple… can be free if you have a garden and promises hours of fun. We accidentally let a couple of zucchinis get too big in the garden…what do to? Make a boat of course…actually two, because each of my boys wanted one.
You will need a LARGE zucchini… make sure to see how it sits on the counter… we had one that didn’t work because we cut it wrong and water flooded in. After you have located the top by laying it on a flat surface…Cut a thin layer from the top, don’t cut off too much or it will take on water.
Use a spoon to scoop out the insides.
Add a mast (we used a bamboo skewer and fabric) some LEGO people and you are ready to go!
We sailed our boats in the pool, but a small stream or creek would be so fun for racing… Even a baby pool would be fun though to see the zucchini boats float around.
