Woven Door Basket for Cookies with #SpreadCheer

Okay, so tomorrow is Thanksgiving, but today is my first Christmas post. I just couldn’t wait any longer! My favorite time of year is here… And this year I’m partnering with Betty Crocker™ to #SpreadCheer to our neighbors. I baked up a batch of delicious chocolate chip Christmas cookies, made a fun woven door basket, printed a tag and then we went around and hung these on our neighbors doors. I love the idea of making Christmas more about giving than receiving and this project is on target with that goal. We live in an apartment building so for us I wanted to create a basket that could hang on doors, not have to sit on the ground. I’ll be sharing my woven door basket tutorial below. I added sprinkles to the chocolate chip mix to make them a Christmas version.

Mix in the sprinkles and drop on the cookie sheet as directed on package.

I made up some large cookies to eat right away… and then a whole bunch of smaller ones that fit in my woven basket. 

We took this plate full of cookies and put them in small plastic bags tied with a ribbon.

Add a note, a gift card {if you want} and maybe even some cute Christmas decor. If you don’t want to make up your own tag you can print some really cute ones from the Betty Crocker™ site.

Load it all up in the basket and hang on a neighbors door to Spread Cheer. Remember to use #SpreadCheer when you share your basket on social media so others can join.

Here’s how to make the basket. You can do this with paper too, but I wanted it to hold the cookies and other goodies, so I used craft foam. Cut 2 pieces each 4″ x 12″. Round the edges if desired.

Fold in half and cut 1″ strips in the foam. Cut from the folded edge to 1.5″ from the top.

Now you just weave… from the folded edge, put both layers of green through the first red loop, then open up the green and put both red layers through the green. Continue, one strip at a time…

Arrange the foam as you go, you make have to pull and tug a bit to get it all to line up. It may be easier to not finish one row at a time. You may need to start weaving all before you finish up. You can see how I was working on the second row before finishing the first.

Once you get it all woven, make sure it’s all even, then just open up! So cute! I stapled a handle from the back to the front.
