Today I’m sharing a DIY Yard Yahtzee game and other ideas for summer family fun.
My family LOVES yard games. In fact we host a mini-olympics style family reunion game every summer. Lawn Yahtzee is one of our all time favorites. Today I’m going to give you a quick DIY tutorial to make your own yard yahtzee game. This is one the whole family can play and will enjoy.
DIY Yahtzee yard game
I’m sharing an easy DIY Yard Yahtzee game today for my summer fun idea. We’ve been playing this all summer with family and extended family and its been great for the whole family.
You will need:
- 5 – 4×4 Wood Squares. Go to Lowes/Hom Depot and buy 20 inches of 4×4, then have them cut into cubes for you.
- 1 large whiteboard…. I got mine on a back to school deal at Target
- a bucket for rolling {optional}
- Wood burner or a thick black Sharpie
I’ll get to the details of how to put it together after I show you a few photos of FUN!
We played in teams, going every other roll. It was a good way to get more people involved. Even my {very} pregnant sister could play this game!

We started on the grass, but found that the dice didn’t lay flat, so it was hard to tell which number was up. We moved to the driveway with an outdoor carpet down. Since then we’ve also played on a deck, which worked too.
My boys like to get in on the action! They were on pick up crew for the preggo mama! {my sister}

I mentioned above about having Lowe’s/Home Depot cut a 4×4 for you. You can do it yourself if you have a power saw at home. You want to end up with 5- 4×4 cubes. Create dice by using a wood burner or just a marker to add the dots for numbers.
Use a white board to create a large score card that all players can see. I used Sharpie Markers for the lines and scoring details {below} Then use a whiteboard marker for the actual score and the score will wipe clean while the rest stays put! It’s a great reusable score board. It’s also large to go with our large yahtzee yard game.

Popping by from the Mellywood Mansion. This is a fantastic idea! I think I might make my son a set of these. When he was little, he used to take all the die out of our games. Now he will have some giant ones for his own place. Cheers!
