I love making costumes for my boys and this year it was a DIY football costume! Of course, usually matching is the easiest route! {ha!}This year I convinced the boys that being a Football Player was a great costume, {and an easy one for me!}. So, hopefully they don’t change their mind in the next three weeks… its a Football Player Halloween Costume!
Oh my, aren’t they cute!!!
DIY Football Costume-
In Hong Kong {actually most of the world} football usually means what I would call soccer, so this would have to be labeled an American Football Costume. But, because I’m from the US and this is football to me… we will keep the title…
The boys were given these jerseys for their birthdays, and I thought, lets make some sports like pants and call it a day {ha!} You can make an easy sports costume too! I think these pants would work for football or baseball. I used the amazing Alex and Anna Pj Pattern from Peek a Boo Pattern Shop. You can also grab my FREE LEGGING PATTERN HERE { I would size up for boys}
I made the pants as the pattern directed, but left off the bottom cuff. I folded up the bottom to shorten them, then added the red ribbon to the side. {use whatever color matches your jersey.}
Pin the ribbon to the side and sew on. I was able to use the machine for about 3/4 of the seam, but the legs got really tight and the folded up part got in the way, so I did have to hand-sew the bottom part.
These costume were SO quick and easy! Both pants, including the ribbon, took less than an hour! What team would your boys wear?
We had a ton of fun taking photos! We got the boys all decked out!
This is what I got when I asked for a tough football look! I love these two SO much!
Here’s a close up of the pants… really pleased with how they turned out.
I needed help with the football poses and getting the boys to run around a look all footbally…
So fun! We can’t wait to put this on again for the costume party later this month.
Happy Homemade Halloween! What are you making for costumes this year?
I plan to make these into real Pjs after Halloween… I’ll whip up a long sleeve shirt from the pattern, take off the red stripe and add a coordinating cuff. Maybe even dye the pants… I’m sure I’ll update you {whether you want me to or not!}
