School starts Monday! WOW! Today I’m talking about our final summer craft, back to school shopping and earning double box tops at Walmart. Last week we did our back to school shopping at Walmart and also make this fun fabric and nature suncatcher as a last hurrah craft before school starts Monday.
Didn’t that turn out cute! The kids helped to gather the nature element and I did the sewing part. You can also use glue if you aren’t one who uses a sewing machine. While we were at Walmart grabbing all our school supplies I made sure to grab the Kleenex and Viva products that offer DOUBLE TOPS! Both my boys have tissue and paper towels on thier supply list, so this offer is perfect for back to school. AND we used the inside roll from the Viva paper towels for our proejct. SO.. head to Walmart, grab your school supplies, then make this fun craft before school starts! For this fun fabric and nature suncatcher you will need: An empty paper towl roll, fabric scraps, glue or sewing machine, clear contact paper, string, and nature {leaves, flowers, etc.}
Okay.. get started by taking a large glass and tracing circles on the fabric. You want them to be at least 3-4″ in diameter. Cut out the outer circle, then fold in half and cut out the middle, leave just a 1/2″ circle. I did the marker on the wrong side of the fabric so you won’t see it. I made 7 sets {so 14 fabric circles}
Plae a large piece of contact paper sticky side up on the table. Add your nature items to the contact paper, stick them on, and leave space around to cut circles.
Place another piece of contact paper on top – placing the sticky sides together. Now you have your nature items sandwiched. Press out the air bubbles and seal tightly.
Use the same cup from the fabric circles and trace circles on the contact paper.
Cut out 7 circles…
Cut strings 12-15″ long- place one fabric circle wrong side up, then the clear circle, then the string and finally the other fabric right side up… make a layered sandwich with all the elements. Pin. {you can also hot glue all these layers together!}
I sewed around with a wide zig-zag stitch. I had to use a lot of pins to keep the layers from sliding.
Pin each fabric circle on the string to the Viva paper towel roll. I varied the place of each string.
Wrap the towel roll with long strips of fabric scraps. Go around the srings and secure the ends. Use fabric or string for a hanger.
It turned out so pretty! I love how each circle is different…
Are you doing any last minute crafting before school starts? Have you done your back to school shopping yet? Keep Walmart and Kleenex, Viva and Scott products in mind for the Double Box Tops offer when you do!

These are really cute. A great activity for children. We often think of gathering leaves in the fall for children’s activities but forget about it during the summer.
