This morning we got the news that we FINALLY have approval to go to China and pick up our little girl. We’ve been in the final stages for awhile now, so I’ve been trying to stay busy {and patient!}. So that means I’ve been sewing for her. It has been so much fun to go crazy with all the girly patterns I’ve been hording for years. I spent an afternoon with the patterns and fabric and then have been sewing in my moments of spare time. Today I’m going to show off my handmade summer wardrobe for my new daughter Rose. I can’t wait to show you all these clothes again… with a little girl in them! {oh and excuse the wrinkles!}
Please keep us in your prayers… we will be in China from June 6-16th picking her up.
Okay, let’s talk patterns! You can click the pattern name to be taken to the patterns…
These are the Clover Shorts from Mouse House Creations in size 18 months. I did not add the waist ruffle or sash because I have a few tanks and tees that I just needed plain shorts for. I love the pleats! The pattern comes is sizes 6m – 12 yrs.
I bought this pattern in a bundle with several others a few years ago. This is the Banyan Tee {girls version} by Figgys. It comes in sizes 18mths- 8/9. This is the 18mth. It looks cute with leggings and I can’t wait to put it on a real girl!
This year I get to be a pattern rep for Jenuinne Designs.. that means that I get all her patterns to blog about! What a great job {ha!} This is the Verona Dress, it comes in sizes newborn – 12 year. I used IKEA hippo fabric and white shirting fabric for this adorable dress.
I had a friend’s daughter model it for my blog post… it’s such a cute dress!
This is the swim suit pattern I used to sew up last summer for all the cousins {I made 7 suits!} This is the Coco Bay Color Block Tankini. I love this pattern, the fit is great and it sews up easy! The fabric is great swim fabric from The Fabric Fairy. The pattern includes sizes 3m – 12 yrs.
I have been wanting to buy this pattern FOREVER!! When we got the official word on our adoption the Desert Rose Dress was the first girly pattern I bought! This dress by Caila Made comes in sizes 3m – 8yrs. I must have traced the pattern a bit wrong because my shoulders are not quite as wide as the pictures look. But it still turned out super cute. I made the skirt shorter, then added a strip of the bodice fabric and a bit of green trim… I just love it.
This Tinley Tee and The Love Me Knot Shorts I sewed this outfit last fall as part of the GYCT pattern tour for these two patterns. Again, I have my little model showing these off, and I’m hoping they will still fit our new little one as she is 6 months younger than my little friend here. Both are by GYCT Designs and come in sizes 12m – 12y.
This cute play suit is the FREE Elegance and Elephants Pleated Playsuit pattern. It comes in sizes 12 m – 9y and is FREE… I love that word. It is meant to be made in a woven, but I tried it in this cute knit with FOE for the neck and arm finishes.
Of course a girl needs leggings! I used my Free legging pattern to make a couple pair of leggings for those cooler summer nights.
I made two short sleeve PJ tops and one short and one long bottom. The pattern is the Alex and Anna Pjs {both winter and summer} from Peek a Boo Patterns. The pattern comes in sizes 3m-12 years.
What are your favorite patterns for creating a handmade summer wardrobe? I’d love ideas for myself, or girls…

I am so excited for you to go get your girl!! I hope it goes well and you have a wonderful time in China. thanks for the tip on the playsuit. I might have to make that. My favorite all time pattern for the girls is the skater dress by kitchy coo. But I also make a lot of kids shorts by MADE and parsley pants (those work for boys and girls and are great). Becka loves the skinny W pants too that can be shorts.

OOO thanks for all pattern ideas! I’ve seen the skater dress, but I don’t have that pattern… might have to get it ;o) I’ve made loads of the MADE shorts for my boys… such a versatile pattern!!

I have used the skater dress for peplum shirts and even to make a flared shirt with one piece by laying the top and skirt piece together. The only bummer is it goes only up to size 8 and my oldest just hit size 10.
Emily says
that’s a great idea! Such a bummer when kids out grow your fav patterns.

I tested the love me knots and Tinley tee also and they’re staples in our summer wardrobes.
I made the Boo Designs Grace dress last week with the love me knots to go with….It’s a super cute outfit on Monkey.
I’m working on a VFT Kate which also has shorts for her right now. I’m currently in love with al things vintage pinnie style. Haha.
