Seven Swim Suits!!! My first ever attempt at sewing a swim suit and I jumped right in and made seven! Here’s a look at some swimsuit patterns for kids.
My new Favorite… Try the Baja Shorts Here
For the last several years I have made matching clothes for the cousins.. When I first started there were just three {and the little romper didn’t even fit over the baby’s head… we had to cut it up the back to get it on…oh I’ve come a long way in my sewing and pattern skills!} Then there were four kids for a few years…You can see several years of matching cousin outfits here. And last year the family was bumped up to SEVEN! I made shorts for the boys and shared some shorts and pocket tutorial with that post here. This year my mom {who has a pool} asked me to make suit for all the kids.. and I blindly jumped in and said yes! We were all thrilled with the results…
For the girls suits I used the Coco Cay Color Block Tankini by Peek a Boo Pattern Shop
And the boys suit was the Surf’s Up Board Shorts by Peek a Book Pattern Shop
There are so many cute suits in the Swim section of the shop…{the pattern shop links are affiliate links}
The gorgeous swim suit fabric is from the Fabric Fairy and it was so amazing to work with. The board short fabric is SO soft and light and the girls suits are fully lined but not bulky or bunchy.
It is quite a production and fully family effort to get seven kids under seven in a photo at the same time. {notice I don’t even expect smiles at the sames time, that’s just too much to ask!}
I used two fabrics for the girls suits and mixed and matched the color blocked top and the bottoms.
The boys suits are boardshorts with a real pocket on the side and a coordinating fabric waistband.
We used popcicles for bribery..
I made all these suits in Hong Kong with only measurments to go on and the three small suits {2T} have some issues with the armhole elastic… It seems too big as the shoulders ended up a bit ruffled when the girls put them on. The big girl suit {7} is fine. I am sure if I was able to measure as I went it would have been a perfect fit.
No family photo shoot is complete without some meltdowns..
And my nephew found a tree frog…
So there you go! Suits as cute from the back as they are from the front and seven adorable cousins who are having a blast together this summer! What are your favorite swimsuit patterns for kids? I’m hooked now and will probably make many more suits in the future.
I had enough fabric left over that I made a swimsuit for me from the leftovers…. I posted this swimsuit pattern and tutorial last week.

You’ve got me SO wishing that I knew how to sew! I love the tankinis you made. Too cute! I can’t believe you made SEVEN on your very first attempt. And it looks like you’ve been making them forever, btw. =0)

Lovely. I love making swimsuits too , my daughter is a synchronised swimmer so I make them for her and teammates. Lots of sequins and beads needed though which are very time consuming as that are all hand stitched. Carry on with the great work.
