My favorite baby gift is a homemade snuggly baby blanket. I’ve made many blankets over the years. I love coming up with new baby blanket tutorials to share with you all and making gorgeous blankets to give away to new babies. Want to know the secret to my extra cuddly blankets? I use Snuggle® Ultra Blue Sparkle fabric conditioner and blue iris bliss® Snuggle Scent Boosters® found at Sam’s Club when I pre-wash my fabric. The result is super cuddly and snuggly baby blankets that smell fresh too! Want to make one? This snuggly baby blanket tutorial is very easy and even beginners can make one!
Okay, let’s get started! You will need 1.25 yards of a fleece fabric and the same of a knit fabric. Pre-wash your chosen fabric with Snuggle® Ultra Blue Sparkle fabric conditioner and blue iris bliss® Snuggle Scent Boosters® following the instructions on the packaging for great results every time.
You will start with the fleece. Cut 4 squares 21″ square. If you are working with scraps {like I was… see options below} Or another option for the blanket is just to use one large piece of fleece 40×40″- if you want the simplest version.
So, if you don’t have enough for 21″ squares, piece together fleece to make a 21″ square. See mine here: Arrange your squares to set your design. My fleece was double-sided so I flipped it to vary the pattern. I added the heart as you can see in the upper right corner. Sew the squares together.
Sew the squares together, then lay WRONG sides together with your knit fabric. Cut your knit the same size as the fleece.
With the WRONG sides of the fabric today sew around entire perimeter with a 1″ seam allowance. Make sure there are no wrinkles before you sew.
Clip the 1″ seam allowance at 3/4″-1″ intervals around the blanket. I like to clip my corners as shown. The knit should curl up and look cute all around the edges.
Here’s a close-up of the ‘YOU ARE LOVED’ heart I added to the fleece side.
I love how it turned out! The stripy knit side is so cute.
And… after I was done taking the photos my two year old wanted to go ‘night-night’ with the new blankie… This is her fake sleeping face.. so cute! She was so excited to pretend for me.
