This easy quilt was my summer project. My mom is a much better quilter than I am… so I took this project home for the summer. I love easy quilting… because I’m not really a quilter… But I do like to sew, so with help, I like to make an easy quilt. Go to Part 2 for more details about the measurements and other details/tutorial, this is just a photo post!{because I LOVE the way it turned out!}
The center of this quilt is the baby/crib quilt. I added the fabric around to make it a twin quilt.
The quilt is for this little guy! He actually hates blankets of any kind….. so its kind of a waste right now, but I’m hoping he will come around.
my machine does a few fun stitches and I used these to quilt the layers together… Its not a quilting machine, so I had to be creative. I bought a huge role of blue color variegated thread. It was more than enough to do all the stitching.
I used a very thin cotton batting for the quilt, so its actually quite thin.
The back of the quilt is the star fabric from the front and a cute car fabric I found at Joannes. I originally wanted to cover the whole back with the cars, but I didn’t have enough and I when I went back they were out. So, I bought more of the blue star fabric and edged the cars with the stars…
the car fabric is only on the front side in the corners.
If you can sew, you can make this simple and easy quilt. I love that I can keep the boys room the same theme, yet update for an older boy. Jack has the twin size of this transportation set {circo} and now Max has a coordinating one, but not matching.
and here it is in action in the bedroom {yes, that is my two year old with a camera… taking my photo as I’m taking his!} My older son sleeps in this loft bed, and we’ve nestled the crib under it as well for a pseudo bunk bed…. saves space in a small room.
getting ready for nap time in his crib turned toddler bed… the quilt is too big for the bed, but I’m sure at some point we will have real bunk beds for the boys… You can see other other quilt in the top bed…and the pillow cases I made. Full tutorial for the crib to twin quilt here.

I love this idea! It gives you the chance to use the blankets longer, getting more use out of them as the kids grow. I only wish I could sew!

That’s a beautiful quilt. You should be proud. I attempted a quilt about 13 years ago. I’m mailing the batting to my best friend (this year) because I never did get very far.

I loved that quilt! I wish I had talent like that. I can sew squares. Kind of. Lopsided squares. That counts for something, though, right?

It looks great. I want to learn how to make a quilt. My son used to not like blankets on him. He grew out of it.

Hi Parmenidis,You could be on to something here. God may have created String Theorists to formulate non-predictive theories, so that mankind would never cease to be in awe of the wondrousness and incomprehensibility of the universe.

When you think about it, that’s got to be the right answer.
