We are a LEGO family! My boys have been crazy about LEGO since forever! We started years ago with LEGO® DUPLO® and the big boys have moved onto regular small LEGO bricks, but with a three year old in the house we still have DUPLO all over the house. The creativity and inspiration I see when my kids play is so inspiring.
I LOVE LEGO I really, really do… but they TAKE OVER the house! We had to come up with a system for easy DUPLO organization.. and quick! I needed a way for my kids to clean up on.their.own when they are finished playing! These mesh bags are super awesome in that they solve both these problems… they organize… {you can make one for each set!} and they allow for independent clean up! The vinyl middle helps the bag stand up, so no one needs to hold the bag open…
See- dump them all, play hard, then clean up is easy! Sort by color, set or just fill the bags and put away! Even little ones can clean up!
We were given this super fun Around the World Set to review and to show off our easy DUPLO organizing tips.
LEGO® DUPLO® preschool building toys are specially designed for the small hands and big imaginations of children aged 1½ – 5 years. DUPLO bricks are twice the size of standard LEGO bricks, making them a safe way to kick off a child’s building career. We were able to share this set with two of my nieces and it was so fun to see the three girls play!
I LOVE the imagination that LEGO brings out in kids. Seriously! Hours and hours of fun and imaginative play! Building towers, playing with the sets, people and building structures, LEGO keeps my kids occupied for hours. Play is essential to child development and learning about their world. Parent and kids can partner together through play to learn and create. What is a way you’ve found to maximize playtime? DUPLOS work great for us to have long periods of play.
And when we finish playing, my 3-year-old is really great about cleaning up! Sometimes we work on colors while we sort too!
Okay, want to make some bags to organize your DUPLO or LEGO bricks? Let’s get started! For this project you will need:
A shoe lace, and a toggle
Cut 1 piece of vinyl and 1 piece of mesh 7 x 24″. Then Cut a mesh circle that has a diameter of 25″. I just put a mark in the center and then measured 12.5″ in all directions to make my circle.
Fold the vinyl into a circle overlapping the edge 3/8″, using a zig-zag stitch, close the circle.
Take the mesh circle and mark four equal quarters. Do the same with the vinyl circle. Match those marks around and pin.
In between those four marks, pleat the mesh so it fits the vinyl. I added 1-2 pleats in each quarter. Pin and sew around using the zig-zag stitch. Overlap the mesh and vinyl about 1/2″
I put the vinyl under the presser foot to get access to the mesh edge. Sew slowly around in a circle.
Now your bag has a bottom, like this… Trim any extra mesh from the seam allowance.
Take the final piece of mesh and start on the vinyl seam. Overlap 3/8″ and sew around.
The bag now should look like this. Overlap the side seam and zig-zag to complete the bag. The vinyl seam and mesh seam should line up.
Thread your shoelace through the mesh at 1″ intervals around the bag for a draw string.
Add a spring toggle as a closure you are done!!
You did it! Your kids can pick up on their own and you will love that toys are not all over! These bags can hold a lot of LEGO too, so load up, hang up and get on with your play!
To be inspired for play time activities such as “What if” visit LEGO.com/Family. One of the best things you can do to nurture your own and your child’s imagination is to keep fearlessly exploring new “what if’s” – have fun making up completely unrealistic scenarios – it’s your story, go wild! How did you and your little one build great memories by exploring “what if” with LEGO® DUPLO® play?

These bags look so useful, and not too hard to make either. My kids are all grown up now but we have always been big logo fans, right from Duplo right up to fairly complex star wars sets. Anything to help with the tidy up is a good idea in my book.

I was just thinking about similar bags the other day. My friend has some she made and I just picked up Lego duplos at the thrift store for my youngest. They love legos here! Pinning this!
