This easy quilt was my summer project. My mom is a much better quilter than I am… so I took this project home for the summer. I love easy quilting… because I’m not really a quilter… But I do like to sew, so with help, I like to make an easy quilt. Go to Part 2 for more details about the measurements and other details/tutorial, this is just a photo post!{because I LOVE the way it turned out!}
The center of this quilt is the baby/crib quilt. I added the fabric around to make it a twin quilt.
The quilt is for this little guy! He actually hates blankets of any kind….. so its kind of a waste right now, but I’m hoping he will come around.
my machine does a few fun stitches and I used these to quilt the layers together… Its not a quilting machine, so I had to be creative. I bought a huge role of blue color variegated thread. It was more than enough to do all the stitching.
I used a very thin cotton batting for the quilt, so its actually quite thin.
The back of the quilt is the star fabric from the front and a cute car fabric I found at Joannes. I originally wanted to cover the whole back with the cars, but I didn’t have enough and I when I went back they were out. So, I bought more of the blue star fabric and edged the cars with the stars…
the car fabric is only on the front side in the corners.
If you can sew, you can make this simple and easy quilt. I love that I can keep the boys room the same theme, yet update for an older boy. Jack has the twin size of this transportation set {circo} and now Max has a coordinating one, but not matching.
and here it is in action in the bedroom {yes, that is my two year old with a camera… taking my photo as I’m taking his!} My older son sleeps in this loft bed, and we’ve nestled the crib under it as well for a pseudo bunk bed…. saves space in a small room.
getting ready for nap time in his crib turned toddler bed… the quilt is too big for the bed, but I’m sure at some point we will have real bunk beds for the boys… You can see other other quilt in the top bed…and the pillow cases I made. Full tutorial for the crib to twin quilt here.

I love this idea. My mom bought my boys bedding and she’s always asking when will I use the bedding. If I convert to a twin then I can do it. Pinned! If you have time, I’d love it if you would link this to Family Fun Friday – we have over 100 bloggers and 600 readers every week. 🙂 Thanks so much! Monica

What a great way to lengthen the life of a baby quilt. By the way, I LOVE that car fabric. I used in a baby quilt I made. When I was done, I bought more so I’d have it on hand for the next time I need to make a baby boy quilt.

Thanks for giving me the idea to transform my toddlers blankets to big kid bed size when the time is right. I spent so much money on their crib bedding, it seems like I should be able to use it for more than a year or two, lol. Now I know how I can do that.

I’m showing this to my daughters, they love to sew (they are 7 and 12) and oldest has already pieced her own quilt. She could oversee her younger sister on this project and they have 6 brothers who would love ‘their own’ quilt.

I am a quilter and I love this idea! It’s so fun to make things for your kids and to continue to use something from infancy well into childhood. Love love love it!

Obviously, the quilt is adorable and I’m very impressed – but can I also say how genius it is to nestle the crib beneath a loft bed like that!? We have very limited space so I’m totally stealing that idea!!!
