This easy quilt was my summer project. My mom is a much better quilter than I am… so I took this project home for the summer. I love easy quilting… because I’m not really a quilter… But I do like to sew, so with help, I like to make an easy quilt. Go to Part 2 for more details about the measurements and other details/tutorial, this is just a photo post!{because I LOVE the way it turned out!}
The center of this quilt is the baby/crib quilt. I added the fabric around to make it a twin quilt.
The quilt is for this little guy! He actually hates blankets of any kind….. so its kind of a waste right now, but I’m hoping he will come around.
my machine does a few fun stitches and I used these to quilt the layers together… Its not a quilting machine, so I had to be creative. I bought a huge role of blue color variegated thread. It was more than enough to do all the stitching.
I used a very thin cotton batting for the quilt, so its actually quite thin.
The back of the quilt is the star fabric from the front and a cute car fabric I found at Joannes. I originally wanted to cover the whole back with the cars, but I didn’t have enough and I when I went back they were out. So, I bought more of the blue star fabric and edged the cars with the stars…
the car fabric is only on the front side in the corners.
If you can sew, you can make this simple and easy quilt. I love that I can keep the boys room the same theme, yet update for an older boy. Jack has the twin size of this transportation set {circo} and now Max has a coordinating one, but not matching.
and here it is in action in the bedroom {yes, that is my two year old with a camera… taking my photo as I’m taking his!} My older son sleeps in this loft bed, and we’ve nestled the crib under it as well for a pseudo bunk bed…. saves space in a small room.
getting ready for nap time in his crib turned toddler bed… the quilt is too big for the bed, but I’m sure at some point we will have real bunk beds for the boys… You can see other other quilt in the top bed…and the pillow cases I made. Full tutorial for the crib to twin quilt here.

Beautiful work! I am not a quilter, but I certainly have an appreciation for the art. When my oldest was born he was given a quilt by my aunt. There’s certainly something to be said about a handcrafted gift!

Very nice! I do not sew (or have any talent in the craft department really) but I do think quilts are beautiful and admire the work it takes to create them. I also liked your creative solution with the crib under the loft bed–wish I would have thought of something like that when my boys were younger.

I Love that quilt! I’ve wanted to make one for my daughter for the longest time, but it always seems somewhat beyond my skills.

I started a t shirt quilt almost 8 years ago and never finished it, wish I could get back into quilting but I no longer have a sewing machine

I made my son a quilt when he was born. Now 22 years later, it is well loved, nearly all tattered but still tucked away in a drawer. When he comes home, I lay it on his pillow and he always says “Ahhh, you still have this?!” It’s touching to see what he remembers.

I don’t know how to quilt – though I do sew all the time. What a great way to make that quilt last a lifetime.

This is absolutely adorable!! I’ve never tackled a large quilt like yours, I did a wall hanging and rather enjoyed it. I love quilts. You did a wonderful job and should be proud. What a great heirloom to pass along with your son when he has a little boy.

So cute! We have so many small crib quilts that we don’t use anymore.

Precious! That will be something they can give to their kids when they are parents!

So clever, it’s too bad he doesn’t like blankets! I can see how this can be a great way to have a favorite blankie “grow up” with the kiddo.

What a cute idea. I have little sewing experience so I leave it to others to do these types of projects.
