inside: Check out all these fun free holiday dress patterns and tutorials to create festive dresses. Free sewing patterns and inspiration to create beautiful dresses.
With my love of free sewing patterns and reusing patterns I already own, this year I created two new holiday dress looks with a couple of my free dress patterns. I’m going to give you information today on the two dresses I sewed, plus lots of tutorials that work well for creating beautiful holiday looks. These two Christmas dresses turned out so well and Rose is patiently waiting for Thanksgiving to pass so she can wear them.

I will be giving you a list of free dress patterns that work for holiday wear below, but first let’s take a closer look at these two Christmas dresses.
First… My personal opinion is that it’s not the dress pattern that makes the dress, it’s the fabric! Even simple dress patterns, like these seen here, can be used to sew beautiful holiday wear with the right fabric.
This red print was labeled a knit {I think from fabric{dot}com}. I was planning to make my kids Christmas Pjs, but when I got it the fabric really doesn’t’ have any stretch at all. So I used it with pattern created for woven fabric and it works well. This is one cozy, comfortable and festive dress. The Sweet Rose dress is beautiful in so many fabrics, and this one was another success.
This is my daughters favorite of the two because it’s so twirly. I bought the velvet like fabric at Hobby Lobby and used the free t-shirt dress pattern with ruffle shoulder hack to create this dress.
The Sweet Rose dress has a button back and I used green buttons from my stash for the closure. I also got the pattern to line up pretty well at the back which was a huge win.
The ruffle shoulder hack makes any dress more elegant. I made a mistake with the first shoulder and sewed the ruffle upside-down. I decided I liked this contrast of fabric so just went with it. In the original tutorial I I left the ruffle edges raw, but this fabric frays, so I did a rolled hem on the ruffles and bottom of skirt.
Is there anything better than a dress that twirls? This is the t-shirt dress with circle skirt option and long sleeves. It falls perfectly right above the knee. Rose wears a size 6 width and size 8 length.
I see both of these dresses getting a ton of wear over the next several weeks.

Thanks for sharing your patterns, and most of all, your honest-to-goodness, real life in sewing! The perfectionist me would have sighed, said “I know better,” and then spent more time ripping out the “upside down” ruffle and re-sewing it (hopefully in the “right” direction this time). Way to go on being real and forging ahead on these dresses when things didn’t go as expected. You bring such happiness to your little girl with your projects and grace to your readers through posts like these <3 Thank you <3
