I bought the supplies all over.. I’ve been gathering them over the past month… Yarn, bow and wreath from Joann Fabric, fabric from Fabric.com and the berries from Michael’s. I’ll give you some links below if you don’t want to run all over town to make this fun Christmas wreath.
Make a Fabric Christmas Wreath
Gather your supplies –
- Foam wreath and balls {various sizes} you need around 50 for a 14″ wreath
- fleece fabric {fabric with a bit of stretch works best.
- Chunky yarn
- Berries or other beads
I found that fabric without stretch did not work for wrapping the foam balls. I have the red velvet in this photo, but I ended up not using it as it didn’t wrap well. For the large foam balls I used about a 1″ strip of fabric, and then about 1/2″ strips for the smaller ones.
Wrap the foam balls with fabric or yarn. I secured the end of the fabric with a glue gun and then wrapped the ball until all the foam was covered. Then I put a dot of glue to secure the other end as well.
The yarn was much more difficult to wrap. I used glue to hold the end, then I put a strip of glue in a few placed on the ball and wrapped the yarn over the glue. Once I got the yarn secured in a couple of places it was easy to wrap the layers on top of that yarn. I love the chunky red yarn.
You will need a different amount of balls depending on the wreath size. I made around 50 covered foam balls for my 14″ wreath base.
Start my adding the larger sizes on the middle of the wreath top. I filled in the edges with the two smaller sizes. I used my glue gun to secure the balls to the wreath AND to each other. I held them in place for a few minutes while the glue was drying. After I figured out what I wanted to do I put all the larger sizes on first around the whole wreath, then I filled in the sides with the smaller balls.
I added a big bow and berries to finish the wreath. You can add what ever finishing details you want to your Christmas wreath.
There you have it! How to make a Christmas wreath that you will enjoy this holiday season and for many more to come in the future.
