Inside: download, print and sew up this free t-shirt sewing pattern. A perfectly fitted womens tee for summer or layering.
It’s almost summer which means its time for a fresh look! I’ve got a remake of my popular T shirt sewing pattern for women {free!} and details on how my hair is looking and feeling great for summer. I’ve never loved the way the sleeves fit on my old free t shirt pattern, so I decided to give it a fresh look. This new version has a perfect fitted silhouette and works great for summer or layers in cooler weather.
T Shirt Sewing Pattern FREE
I love my new shirt! I remade the original pattern, keeping the fit, but redoing the sleeves and neckline. I lowered the neckline just a bit and redid the sleeves/shoulders for a better fit.
Scroll down to the bottom for the link to download the pattern and get the full tutorial for putting it all together. You can make the shirt with cuffs on the sleeve or just a hem for a cute sleeve. You can see it without the cuffs here in this post {I used the same pattern for this shirt...}
Womens tee free sewing pattern –
Alright, now that you know how to give your hair a fresh look, let’s talk about your wardrobe…. This fitted womens tee is a classic that everyone needs. You may not want to wear a fitted tee by itself, but it’s long and perfect for layering if that’s what you are looking for.
Have you tried double brushed jersey fabric? Seriously the softest fabric EVER! It’s also pretty thin, but has great stretch… It’s my new favorite for skirts and shirts…
Alright!! Let’s get to it!!! Here is the NEW womens free t shirt pattern. Make it with or without cuffs for a great summer look.
Ok! Go download and print the Free T Shirt Sewing Pattern by clicking the graphic below.
The link has been updated to now go to the shop here on my site. Craftsy/bluprint is closed down.
The size chart is on the pattern pieces, but you can also reference it here.
Print the pattern, trim and tape it together. Here’s the pattern layout as it should be when all put together.
How to sew a t-shirt for women
Pattern details… you will need 1 to 1 1/2 yards of knit fabric for this t-shirt. The small takes 1 yard of 60″ wide fabric. You can use ribbing for the neck or just more of the shirt fabric… it’s up to you. I don’t have a huge stash of ribbing so matching is tricky for me.
let’s dive in!! Cut the ribbing according to the chart on the pattern pieces.
1. With right sides together sew the shoulder seams.
2. Sew the short ends of the the neck ribbing together. Fold the neck ribbing wrong sides together and pin to the right side of your shirt. Start and end at the back middle or one of the shoulder seams. Pin around the neckline, stretching to fit the neckline.
3. Sew the neckband to the shirt with a serger or stretch stitch. Top-stitch around the neckline and finish with a coverstitch or twin needle.
4. If you are adding cuffs to the sleeve skip ahead to step 11.
with right side up, open up the shoulder. Find the center of the sleeve and pin to the shoulder seam.
5. pin on either side of the center, sew.
6. it should now look like this.
7. sew up the side seam now, matching the under arm seam.
8. Fold the sleeve under 1/2 inch and sew with a knit stitch or double needle… I’ve found the best is to use Woolly Nylon thread in the bobbin with either option. I’ve started using it with almost all my knit projects. It’s an easy change that makes a big difference.
9. Hem the bottom as well turning up 1/2 t0 3/4 inch and sewing. This finishes the T Shirt Sewing Pattern without cuffs.. you can add cuffs with the directions below.
10. Cuffs- Cut 2″ x width of sleeve. I didn’t trip any length off the sleeve. Fold the cuff wrong side together and then pin the raw edges to the right side of the sleeve bottom. Do this to both sleeves. Top-Stitch if you want.
11. Sew the sleeves to the body following steps 4 and 5. With right sides together, sew the side seams.
12. If desired add the bottom cuff band. Trim 1″ off the bottom of the shirt. Cut band 3″ tall and measure the bottom of your shirt and match the band length. Cut one front and one back. Sew the short sides right sides together. Then fold over and match up the long side. Line up the seam of the band with one side and then match the other side seam with the 1/2 way mark of the band.
13. Pin around and sew.
You did it… LOVE the bottom band!

I’m so excited to try this pattern! I’ve been searching for a classic tee! I just got a French terry with 40% horizontal stretch. Do you think that would work for this project? Thank you!
Abbey says
This looks perfect! I have already ordered fabric to make one and am looking forward to it. One question: how wide and long should one cut the neckband, please?
Bethany Hutchinson says
Abbey, if you look at your pattern pieces, one of them has a chart with that information by size. Happy sewing!

Why can i not find the pattern?
AJ says
You may have to turn off add-block and reload the page. For some reason it blocks the artical, pattern, and images.

Looking forward to making this! I was wondering why there’s only a bust and waist measurement? My high hip right below my waist is much bigger than my waist an I’m not sure which size to grade to. I’ve never made a tee before so I don’t have anything to compare to. Thanks!

I love this pattern. It is easy to cut, and the directions are easy to follow if you have some basic sewing experience. I prefer close-fitting tops, and this pattern fits me perfectly without alterations. I plan to make a third top soon.
