Christmas Tree Skirt pattern
- 3 to 4 yards of various Christmas Fabrics {I suggest at least four different fabrics} The fabric seen here is from Fabric.com
- 3 1/2 yards for the backing
- Rotary Cutting Board and Cutter
- add 1/4 in rotary ruler {optional}
- Perfect corner ruler (or any piece of paper laminated to make thicker and stronger) like an index card… Or Hem tool
- Printed Pattern
- Iron
- You can print the pattern for free from my shop HERE
- Table top ironing pad is handy
For all the other pieces needed I cut strips of all the fabrics. Some 3.5 inches wide and some 4.5 inches wide. This should cover all the other pattern pieces. You will cut the lengths later. Just cut strips for now. You also need to set up your sewing/cutting/ironing station so that you can reach all of them. It will take forever if not close together.
Paper Piecing Sewing Tutorial –
Trace the printed pattern onto tissue paper. You can use an old pattern or just gift tissue paper (what I did). You will need to be able to count for this tutorial so brush up on your numbers! {haha} Turn the pattern over, so the numbers are backwards.
Place your first piece of fabric (right side up facing you) over the # 1 pattern spot. Use fabric from your strips, just cut the length to fit. Make sure you have at least a 1/4 inch around all sides of the #1 piece.
Place your ruler which adds 1/4 inch over the card and hold. You an also just use your clear rotary ruler and put the 1/4″ mark on the tissue fold.
- Flip over to back of tissue
- Trim a length of fabric that will completely cover your next number.
- Place edge of fabric on existing fabric lining up with new number, pin.
- Flip back over to the front and sew on line.
- Remove pin and iron seam open.
- Find next number and place cardboard on this line.
- Fold back tissue and cut 1/4″ seam allowance of the fabric.
- Flip over to back side of tissue and repeat.
remember… you can print the pattern for free from my shop HERE

So that’s how you do that!!!! How cool! Your tree skirt turned out so beautiful! I am involved in a quilted pillow challenge that You would be highly qualified for. I hope you’ll check it out at http://www.sewlavie.com/p/welcome-to-retro-pillow-challenge.html
This patchwork technique would be very useful for the participants in the challenge. Could I add a link to this tutorial so we could use it as a reference?
The challenge occurs throughout September. I hope you’ll consider joining us!
BTW, I found you through the Creative Itch linky party.

Did you cut the finished paper pieced unit 1/4″ bigger all around? Then use 1/4″ seam to join all 12?
