DIY Zipper Pouch for Makeup

This DIY zipper pouch sewing tutorial was born out of the need for a bigger makeup bag… Not that I have more makeup {I’m pretty simple in that area} but I have other things I want to be able to throw in my bag. So… this DIY zippered pouch tutorial can be customized for whatever size you like… the longer your zipper, the bigger your bag can be!

DIY zippered pouch sewing tutorial –

Depending on what you are trying to store you may need to adjust the size of your pouch.

My new pouch is big enough to hold a pack and my makeup remover towelettes. Now that you know my beauty secrets… let’s jump into the DIY zippered pouch sewing tutorial!

Supplies – you will need a zipper… the longer the bigger the pouch… mine was a 18″ double zip. You also need some leather or pleather for this fun sewing project.

With tissue paper create a curved pattern piece. This will be half of your pouch. The length of the curved edge should be the length of your zipper. You may have to play around a bit to get this right…

Create a pattern that is a full oval of your first template. Cut a piece of leather/pleather this size.

If you want to add some embroidery to the pouch do so now..

Add a tab to each end of the zipper. You can leave the edges raw as the leather/pleather won’t fray. The size also doesn’t really matter as we will trim later.

Fold the pouch in half and mark this place. This is where you will start sewing the zipper.

Pin and sew one side of the zipper to the pouch. Start and end at the half-way marks.

Sew the zipper to the other side of the pouch. I used wonder clips and it made the curved edge a breeze.

Open up the end of the zipper and sew a short seam across the bottom of the zipper.

Trim the extra zipper tab.

Turn your pouch right side out and you have a new DIY zippered pouch! SO cute! I used mine for makeup, but I’m sure you can think of so many ways to use this bag.
