I’ve been wanting to make felt play money for kids for months now… I saw some play money like this in the $3 bin at Target, but thought it would be fun to make my own. This is an easy felt DIY that you can make for your kids or they can make with you. I made some money and then my kids wanted more, so they copied what I had done.
Felt Play Money for Kids –
This was such an easy craft… and you know I love felt projects. They are usually quick and easy with great results. I don’t have a template for this felt play money as it was just simple to make and I’m providing some inspiration, not an actual pattern. For this play money you will want to use stiff felt as it is stable and not fuzzy.
For the coins I cut 4 different sizes and labeled them by size like real money. If you are making a different currency of money you will have to adjust the sizes. I made all the coins larger than the actual coin of the same amount.
The bills I only made three denominations – 1, 5 and 10… again with the stiff felt and used a permanent marker to label. The stiff felt is easy to write on. I just made a bunch of money and didn’t really worry about how much I was making… my kids counted it and said there was $97.50 here {haha} SO you can make as much or as little as you want. My kids promptly set up a store to play with the money.
I made an felt envelope as well to keep it in.
You can sew or glue up the sides of the envelope.
Here you go! A fun bunch of felt play money for both play and learning.
here are a few other fun felt projects…
