We made this great Jesus centered Easter countdown with our moms group earlier this week, so I thought I would share it with you too! This is a similar concept to Resurrection Eggs, but my kids always open up all the eggs and mix everything up, so I’m hoping this countdown concept will help us to be more organized about it.
This is also a great project to make with a big group {like we did} because all the items are easy to find and very affordable so the whole projects only costs a couple dollars. You will end up with 12 envelopes, each with a simple item and a paper with a verse on it. You can put them all in a cute basket…
Or make a garland by putting a hole in each envelope and stringing on a ribbon…
You will need:
- 12 envelopes
- Eastery Scrap Book Paper
- Markers, glue scissors
- Ribbon OR basket
AND… all these items. You can print the DIY-resurrection-story HERE. Print and cut into strips.
Each item represents something from the last week of Jesus’ life.
- Leaf – Palm Branch
- Coins – Judas’ betrayal
- Cracker – Last Supper
- Scroll – Jesus prayer in the garden
- Rope- Whip/beating
- Thorn- Crown of Thorns
- Nail – The crucifiction
- Dice – His clothes were gambled for
- Toothpick – The Spear
- Cloth Strip – the burial clothes
- Rock – the Stone over the tomb
- NOTHING to represent the empty tomb
Decorate and number the envelopes.
Stuff each envelope with the corresponding item and the slip of paper that goes with it. Either Place in a cute basket or make into a garland… OR.. display in any way you can image!

The tangible items here really makes the Easter story memorable! What a fun way to teach and also build anticipation. Thanks for linking up with Everything Kids this week.
