Travel with Kids Vietnam

While this blog is mostly sewing and food, I also LOVE to share about our travels with kids… Today I’m talking about travel with kids Vietnam version. Over spring break we traveled to Da Nang and Hoi An in Vietnam. Travel in Asia is so amazingly cheap, and with our upcoming move we enjoyed one last amazing Asian vacation {for now… we will be back!!} So I’ll be sharing lots of photos and a few tips for travel with kids in this post..

I always use AGODA to book our hotels.. it has the best prices and great options… We stayed at Centara Sandy Beach Resort Da Nang and the La Residencia Hoi An Boutique Hotel And Spa in Hoi An. We flew into Da Nang and went through the visa on arrival procdures.. very fast! For the first 3 nights we wanted a pool and breakfast, plus be on the beach. We found that at the Sandy Beach Resort.. my tip for booking hotels is to check the room details.. Agoda will tell you if kids stay free or you have to pay. I always make sure kids can stay free and usually it says something like “kids under 11 stay free if no additional bedding is needed”. So we take along camping mats and sleeping bags for the kids on the floor. Works great and saves money! During our days in Da Nang…

We hiked the Marble Mountains and enjoyed lunch afterwards.

Checked out the central market and had the cheapest noodles ever! Like US $1 a bowl… crazy! Oh and we got to travel with my brother and sister-in-law… total travel bonus!!

We took in a temple and lady buddha statue that overlooks Da Nang.

Another tip… keep the kids happy with daily ice cream breaks… they will endure site-seeing on very hot days if there is a treat at the end! {haha!]

And of course… staying on the beach we spent time playing and exploring… the water was a bit chilly for this girl, but the kids didn’t care.

We spent time in the pool everyday as well. Like Jack’s board shorts? You can buy the pattern here for $1.

After our days in Da Nang we headed to Hoi An.. and it was SO pretty! The ancient city has been converted to shops and restaurants and there are lanterns and colorful buildings everywhere… amazing. Our hotel was PERFECT.. an adorable botique hotel near the heart of the city, we loved it… Our room looked just like the photos on Agoda.

And the outside of the hotel was just as cute..

The food in Vietnam is amazing… I don’t know the actual name of most of it, but I have photos! These were rice cracker taco like things.. cooked over a grill, then folded and served with chili sauce.. we all loved it.

Special Vietnamese ice cream.. the coconut flavor was amazing and the perfect treat on a hot day. 

The kids thought the fresh mango was tasty too.

These are the tradition Bahn Mi sandwich… all kinds of interesting things all come together for a delicious flavor – so I’m told.. I had a vegetarian one so I didn’t get the full experience… 

One evening we ate at these small tables along the river.. it was just amazing. The food wasn’t anything amazing, but the atmosphere was top notch!

We did a bike tour cooking class afternoon where we biked out to a local organic farm to see where they grow all the veggies..

We got to see {and try} how the farmers water the fields. The more wealthy farmers have sprinklers, but the poorer ones still water like this..

We also got to take our photos on this water buffalo and I snapped of photo fo his owner as well.

Back to the city to buy food at the market..

Then to the restaurant where we cooked it all up – with instruction!

Even the kids got to help a bit.

A few other fun things we did in Hoi An… our great hotel had a free shuttle to the beach 10 min away… we spent a few mornings there… which brings me to my 3rd tip… while we may enoying walking around an ancient city all day.. the kids do not, so make sure to break up the site-seeing with things the kids want to do.. like the beach and pool.

We released lanterns into the river which is a nightly event…

One morning we were dragging the kids all over and they were so hot… so we bought them traditional Vietnamese hats to keep them cool..

And then I had to get a good shot of them wearing the hats..

We rented bikes and tried to find a a pottery village… had a nice bike ride, but didnt find the pottery.. {haha!}
