Winter Wool Purse {Tutorial}

Winter Wool Purse Tutorial
This winter bag was inspired from the book One Yard Wonders. I’ve really been enjoying doing some sewing and the book is great for my stash…(using it up, that is!) I can’t share the actual pattern with you, but I thought I would make my own tutorial that I can share with you today.

So, lets get started with the pieces you will need.
These five should all be the same size. Create your pattern from a bag that you like the approx. size. (15 wide x 13 tall [at the sides]) Should just be a basic curved bottom and a little shaping on the top.

Strap: 5 inches wide by 40 inches long
Ring Holder: 5 inches by 6 inches
Pocket 1: 7 inches by 10 inches
Pocket 2: Should be cut the same size as the back (above) in width, and the height about 4 inches less.
(don’t you wish you had my iron? oh wait… I didn’t use one) Okay, so ironing isn’t my thing…
you will also need a zipper…the width of the bag.

The last two pieces are for the front. The front yoke should be the same as the top part of the back. The the pleated front piece just a wider version of the back.

 Pleat the bottom of the front and stitch in place. Make sure its the same size as the front yoke.
 Oh wait… I DO own an iron… Now, use one to iron the interfacing to the lining x2.
 Use pocket 1 and one of the lining sides.
 Fold the pocket in half and sew, turn right side out, clip the corners and sew to the right side of the lining.
 Take the other lining and pocket 2. I couldn’t find a longer zipper at my local shop (in hong kong) so I am using one shorter than I would like.
 Sew zipper to the pocket..
 Then turn right sides together and sew the zipper (and extra side material) to the lining.
 It should look something like this…
 Now finish the front.. Pin the yoke to the pleated bottom and sew.

Pin the front (now finished) to the back and sew just along the outside. You can see the pins in the picture.
  
Now take the ring holder piece and sew, clip and turn.

 

Put the ring on the holder (you can use round, square or rectangle)
 Fold the ring holder in half and sew to the RIGHT side of the bag outside. The side seam will be under the holder now.
 You should now have the outside of the bag (with ring holder) and two lining pieces with pockets on them.
 Sew the linings together, right sides together, clip the curve and turn. Make sure to catch the bottom edge of the big pockets in the seam as you are sewing.
 Sew the long sides of the strap piece and turn. I used my scissors to help turn it…
 Now pin the strap to the other side of the bag. Pin and sew on the right side.
 Now pin the lining to the bag outside Right Sides together. Pin and sew around the top of the bag, making sure to tuck in the ring holder and strap.
 Leave a section open to turn the bag.
Turn the bag in on itself until the lining is inside the bag. Topstitch around the top, closing the open hole and the around the rest of the bag. I didn’t sew the strap at a certain length, instead I just tied it, so I can adjust as needed.
 YOU ARE DONE!!!

 I also made it in red. I used the same fabric for the lining and the outside on this one.
