DIY Felt Playmat Tutorial

Felt playmats are SO fun! We’ve made a few over the years and my kids love playing with their toys on the mats, it’s such a fun way to inspire hours of play. Make an airport, zoo, dino land, ocean or city like this DIY felt playmat. Grab some felt, some toys that inspire and get creating… for the record I have as much fun making these mats as my kids have playing with them.

Felt Playmat Tutorial –

As a kid I always dreamed of having some PLAYMOBIL sets, they looked SO fun to me… It’s one of toys I really wanted my kids to have when they got into detailed play. We had the Noah’s Art set when my oldest was small and now that I can get these amazing toys at Walmart we have several PLAYMOBIL play sets. I LOVE the detail of these sets! I also love all the variety of PLAYMOBIL, some are realistic and some are crazy creative {modern dinos!}

I’ve made several play scenes over the years… this city one is similar to this mat I made when we lived in Hong Kong. It was of our neighborhood and favorite places there. For this mat I was inspired by PLAYMOBIL toys at Walmart, where you can now find these classic kids toys! I bought the PLAYMOBIL Take Along Fire Station and PLAYMOBIL Rescue Ambulance for this fun city felt playmat, but you could make a mat for any of the amazing PLAYMOBIL sets {dino land??} You can hover over the image below to find out more about these sets!

The Fire Station is so fun all set up! SO many fun pieces to inspire play! Grab some felt and make a fun city for these fun PLAYMOBIL sets. My kids love playing with them together and putting each piece together to make the best play scene ever. PLAYMOBIL is perfect for inspiring hours and hours of imaginative play with my kids. Here’s how I put my mat all together. {see video for full version}. I started with a 3′ x 3′ brown felt piece and then built my city on top of it. Start with the play sets you want to build into your town {firestation, hospital, etc} then build roads and other buildings that belong in the scene. You can do the same thing with a nature scene or other location… It’s a fun way to bring a couple of PLAYMOBIL sets together in one big fun adventure.

Use hot glue or regular glue to put it all together.

My son loves all the detail in the Fire Station. SO many small elements to set up and play with. AND the people!! PLAYMOBIL people are just the best!
