Easy Bread Recipe
That crusty top! Gets me every time. Now, just because I call this easy, doesn’t mean super fast. It does take a few hours start to finish, but the results are so worth it. It’s easy because the mess is small and you don’t have to knead forever…
Sometimes when it’s cooking the top gets brown too fast.. you can slow this down by placing some foil over the top after it’s the color you desire.
My no-fail tips… Use BREAD flour.. not all purpose flour, not pastry flour.. bread flour.. I buy both whole wheat and white bread flour and mix for this recipe. You can also do all whole wheat or all white flour.
Another tip is to use fresh yeast.. have a jar that’s been in the cupboard for awhile? Throw it out and buy a new jar. I actually keep my yeast in the fridge for freshness.
And finally.. if your house is cool in the winter like mine… place a metal bowl on a warm burner {turned off} and then put the bread to rise on top of that… works like a charm.
Easy Bread Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 TBS Dry Yeast
- 1 cup warm milk , I use 1%
- 1 TBS Salt
- 2 TBS Brown or white sugar
- 2 TBS OIive Oil
- 4-6 cups bread flour, white or wheat
Instructions
- The total time is 30 min prep, 1:10 rising, 30 min cooking
- TIPS: Use fresh yeast and bread flour for best results
- Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. I heat it in the microwave. it should be warm but not hot, or the yeast will die.
- 2. Add the warm milk, salt, sugar and oil.
- 3. Start adding flour one cup at a time until a dough forms. Stir in the bowl until too hard to stir. knead right in the bowl and keep adding flour, knead until not sticky.
- 4. let sit in a oiled bowl for 20 min. cover with a damp towel.
- 5. Knead for 2 more minutes shape into a loaf.
- 6. Put in a loaf pan and let sit for 45 min.
- Heat oven to 350 and bake 30-35 min.
- Serve warm, it's amazing.

Yes, always bread flour… white bread flour and whole wheat bread flour.

Can I sub honey for the brown sugar, or would that not work the same?

I think that would work! I have done that with other recipes… you might have to add just a bit more flour, but I don’t think it should be a problem.
